FiSahara Film Festival 2013 (Date TBC) at Tindouf, Algeria

April 30, 2013 at 6pm to May 5, 2013 at 7pm
Film screenings might seem an unnecessary luxury for refugees who are dependent on external aid for virtually all their basic needs, but the festival fulfils a number of different functions. Not only does it help break the monotony of camp life, offering the refugees a window on the world beyond the bleak desert horizons, it also provides educational opportunities. Workshops run by film-industry professionals give refugees access to film-making equipment and audio-visual training. Through an…See More

UK Film Premiere - Javier Bardem's Sons of the Clouds at Hackney Picture House

November 10, 2012 from 6:30pm to 11pm
This impassioned documentary takes an unabashed stand on one of the world’s most urgent and ignored states of oppression: the domination of the Sahrawi people by Morocco, who in 1975 annexed the Western Sahara, forcing thousands of people to flee to refugee camps in neighbouring Algeria. Post-Cold War politics come into stark relief as Spanish director Álvaro Longoria explores the alignment of the West with Morocco, while Algeria and Libya arm the Sahrawis’ resistance movement. Starring actor…See More

Hi Stef! your email found its way into my spam, and I only now retrieved it. This is a truly necessary and terrific campaign. In the 70's the solidarity work in the US for the African liberation struggles included the Polisario. We had high hopes. It is a wretched outcome, and your work and those with you is so important. I hope to see you soon. Come and visit! - Steph

Hello Stefan,

I would like to thank you for this great and very smart initiative for the Saharawi cause. As a Saharawi, I greatly appreciate all your efforts to contribute to solving this ongoing conflict. It is certainly my gtreatest hope to see effective change sooner than another three decades, so let's keep the energy and discussion going to the day Saharawis gain their basic right, the right to self-determination.
Million thank you once again! Senia

Yes, this is me. I changed the name on the page now to my own. I followed your advice on the Saharamarathon-blog/community front and contacted a few German sources (with the potential for further expansion). I will also set up a NING network for further interaction and with the opportunity to interlink the networks...get more ppl from non-UK that have already shown interest in the cause to participate in the network.

Hi Stefan,

I will definitely send out a mass email to everyone about the human rights situation to support both the 7 Saharawi human rights activists in Morocco and the 2 in the UK. Do you have an update anywhere about latest situation with the 7?
I think it is very important that everyone who is interested in supporting send a letter to their MPs. I wonder if you have a template to send people as an example letter or can give me a quick list of points of what people should try to include. I guess alternatively we could send people the WSC newsletter as guidance for content. Your input/advice is welcome.

Congrats for this wonderful campaign!!! Very inspiring, also what comes to considering organising something similar here in Finland... Actually we're currently focusing on an annual World in a Village - festival held at the end of May. There are many cultures and countries represented, but we're gonna gain as much attention as possible e.g. by setting up a ten (for 12 people) and showing pictures from the camps and from the oppressed sahrawouis. Hopefully we meet each others in FISAHARA2010!
