EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT WESTERN SAHARA SOLIDARITY GROUP DENOUNCES MOROCCAN ATTACK ON SAHARAWI CAMP

Brussels, 10th November 2010

The European Parliament's Intergroup of Solidarity with the Western Saharan People denounces the violent attack on a Saharawi Dignity Camp in El Aaiun conducted by the Moroccan police and army.

Thousands of Saharawi had been camping in peaceful protest against living conditions in the Occupied Territories of Western Sahara. As a result of this attack 19 Saharawi people have lost their lives, more than 723 have been injured and 159 have disappeared so far, according to RASD figures. Moroccan forces are also indiscriminately arresting young Saharawi.

This attack breaches all international law on decolonization processes. Western Sahara is one of the 16 non-self-governing territories under supervision by the UN Decolonization Committee.

This is an attack on the rights of Western Sahara people. It is unacceptable that Morocco's occupying forces have created a state of emergency in the Occupied Territories of Western Sahara. This situation damages efforts to find a negotiated, definitive solution to the decolonization process in Western Sahara.

The Intergroup also denounces the decision by Moroccan authorities to seal off the camp, thus preventing access to international media and observers and obstructing the flow of accurate, transparent information on events in the Occupied Territories.

The Intergroup deeply condemns Morocco's decision to prevent Willy Meyer, MEP and Vice-President of the EP Intergroup of Solidarity from disembarking a plane in El Aaiun last week. The Moroccan police boarded the plane, violating all international aviation laws and against the captain's will, in order to prevent Willy Meyer from witnessing the situation in the Occupied Territories.

Parliament's Intergroup of Solidarity with the Western Saharan People demands that Baroness Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, issue a strong declaration condemning the events and instigates a more committed EU policy in support of efforts to find a solution to the Western Sahara decolonization process.

Moroccan attack against Sahrawi camp: Security Council to meet on Tuesday

NEW YORK (United Nations)

The UN Security Council set a date of Tuesday to meeting on the recent tragic events in Western Sahara, following the deadly attack launched by the Moroccan occupying forces against the Saharawi camp of Gdeim Izik, the Polisario representative to UN, Ahmed Boukhari told APS Friday.

During this meeting, a report will be presented by the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations on this bloody attack against the camp, located near the occupied city of El Ayun. "This report will enable the fifteen members of the Security Council to have the information and a clearer idea of the violent military operations launched by Morocco against the Saharawi, on which the Council will draw its conclusion,'' he said.

In preparation for this meeting, UN Security Council President Sir Mark Lyall Grant met Thursday Saharawi Coordinator with the United Nations Miss! ion for a referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) M'hamed Khaddad, and the Polisario representative to the UN.

how many ears must a man one have before he can hear people cry.35 five years living in an arid, hostile desert is the most horrible thing one can ever think of.joining this group doesn't mean for me to lead a violent resistance against the occupation but it means to resist this attempt to wipe away our memory and existence. it means, also, that we have to get our right for self determination that history, justice, right and law is plainly granting us as a living nation that deserves to live and prevail.this dismissing of international journalists to write and assess the horrifying crime committed by the forces of occupation, is a picture of 35 years of sahrawi pen and free thinking dismissal. we have been dismissed from writing and thinking for 35 years now. no sahrawi has been given the right to write anything ever from the occupied territories because the occupier fears our pens and because the occupier wants to wipe away our identity.now, let's together sahrawis and world free minds resist the occuapation and say in western sahara there's a people that deserves life and deserves to be free
